Moose Riders
WE MADE IT!! There are now more than 50 Moose Rider members (55 at the
time of this writing). This was my goal when we first started this endeavor 10
month ago. Thanks to the entire “herd” for spreading the news and getting
others to join. Of the current 55 members, 23 are new to the Moose. I believe
people have joined us due to our enthusiasm around the lodge and want to be a
part of the camaraderie that this group has.
We had a fantastic Moose Rider social at the end of March. It was a steak
BBQ and Potluck. All Moose Riders had their steak paid for by the Moose Riders
as a thank you for meeting all the Goals that I placed on our group. Non-Moose
Riders paid a $5 donation for their steak. We served 55 steaks at the social.
Also at the social we had our first Moose Rider Group picture (30 of the 55
members were present in the picture). This picture is being used for our page
in the booklet presented to the recipients of the Laptops at Mooseheart.
We just had our April Breakfast, which benefited the Salinas City
Elementary Educational Foundation. It was not as good as a turn out as I had
hoped, but I think that it being Easter weekend, may
have hurt attendance some. We were able to donate $80 towards this group.
When you receive this newsletter, it will be just days before the Cinco de Mayo celebration at the lodge. Please come and
have some fun with us. The Moose Riders will be here all day. Breakfast of
Chorizo and Eggs with tortillas and Salsa will be served from 8 to noon,
followed by a $1 nacho, taco, tostada bar and finishing up with a sit down
dinner –Beef Birrio or Carnitas
with Rice, Beans, Salsa and Dessert – with dancing until 10:30pm. There will be
Music, Mariachis, Dancers, Games, Raffle, 50/50 throughout the day. Discount Dinner/Breakfast Tickets when purchasing a combination
Ticket.
As I stated in the last article we had a few new members that were going
to be signing up. Welcome to our newest members: Ann Marie Pagan, Juanita Rood,
Robert Pagan, Mary Daniels, Barbara Angel, Gaspar Catanzaro, Virginia
Cook-Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales, Bennie Cooper, Eduardo “Lalo”
Rosas, Robert Cummings, Kelly Sampaolo and Debbie
Corliss. It has been fast and furious as far as who has the Baby Moose Rider Pin, I think Robert Cummings still is in possession at the
time of this writing. The first member to wear the Baby Moose Rider Pin was
Tommy Adam, he was presented the pin at our March
Breakfast as he was the newest member at the time having joined in January. Not
15 minutes after getting the pin, Linda Castro joined the Moose Riders and
Tommy was stripped of the pin. He was so distraught that he barely got to spend
any time with the award. He has been presented with “The Original” Baby Moose
Rider pin to ease the separation anxiety, which he will be able to keep
permanently. He wears it proudly. As you can tell, we have a lot of fun as a
group.
Mike Chiesa and I will be leaving on May 12th
for Mooseheart. If you have not already pledged for
the Ride 4 Kids, I hope you will consider doing so now. 100% of the money
collected will be going directly to Mooseheart and
will be presented at the Blessing of the Bikes on May 19th. We need
to have your pledge by May 8th. I am sure Mike and I will have quite
the story to tell when we get back.
Fraternally Yours,
Derrick Morris, Monterey CA 876 Moose Riders Activity Group President
